One of my other passions is music. All throughout middle school and high school I was involved in choir, auditioned choir, and band in which I played the clarinet. I again was exposed to music at an early age and that has also played a very large role in shaping even who I am today. I no longer am directly involved with choir or band, however I still am passionate about music. I have a pretty expansive collection of vinyl records that I play on a record player that I was able to thrift. I prefer to thrift all of my music relating to vinyls because I have found so many hidden gems and I have much more appreciate for the music that I find because I didn’t just go on amazon and buy it from there. Because of being trained in more than one avenue of music I love connecting the two. For instance my favorite choral composer is Eric Whitacre who composed very dissonant almost ethereal pieces that are meant to provoke emotion from not only the audience but from the performer, the musical composition of these pieces convey the mood of the piece itself and the lyrics only add to the whole. My favorite composition by him is a piece called “A Boy and a Girl” and it is the single most impactful piece of music that I have listened to in my life. It begins with a ethereal tone and then slowly transitions into a tone of melancholy as the story is told and creates a tug on the audiences heartstrings. All this to say music has been an immensely important part of my life. I love picking apart music to figure out how the lyrics and the composition itself work together to give the piece not only meaning but impact.
